So what’s a jalapeño popper roll, you ask? Think flaky crescent rolls stuffed with a dairy-free deluge of cream cheese, cheese shreds, tempeh bacon, and jalapeños, baked to perfection, and drizzled with a zesty cilantro lime sauce. Sounds pretty dreamy, doesn’t it?

If you are not a fan of spicy foods, fear not! If you deseed the jalapeños before adding them in, there is little to no spice. But if you want to keep it on the safe side, we think bell peppers would be awesome in this, too! If you do want some extra heat in your rolls, we recommend keeping some of the seeds in the mix.

What Do We Need?

  • Crescent Rolls: Believe it or not, most canned crescent rolls are accidentally vegan! Brands like Pillsbury and Immaculate Baking Co. both have options. We still recommend checking the label, just in case.
  • Vegan Cream Cheese: This will serve as the base for the jalapeño popper roll filling. We like using Kite Hill or Tofutti brand cream cheese, but any non-dairy plain cream cheese will suffice.
  • Mozzarella Style Shreds: We used Follow Your Heart shreds, but Violife, Daiya, and Miyoko’s also have mozzarella style shreds. If you want to use cheddar style shreds, they would work great as well.
  • Tempeh Bacon: For this recipe we used our tempeh bacon recipe, but you could really use any vegan bacon product you’d like.
  • Jalapeños: As mentioned earlier, the more seeds you include, the spicer your rolls will be, so prepare them accordingly! If you are not a fan of jalapeños, bell peppers would also be great in this!

Jalapeño Popper Rolls

  • Author: Chris @ Sweet Simple Vegan
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls
  • Diet: Vegan

Description

Swoon over snack time again and learn how to make these savory Jalapeño Popper Rolls. They are so simple to make, and will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

Ingredients

Jalapeño Popper Rolls

  • 3 jalapeños, seeded and diced
  • 16 ounces vegan cream cheese
  • 1 ½ cup vegan mozzarella cheese shreds
  • ¼ cup vegan bacon, cooked and diced
  • 2 packs crescent roll dough

Cilantro Lime Sauce

  • ½ cup vegan sour cream
  • ½ tablespoon green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 ¼ tablespoons lime juice
  • ½ tablespoon fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of black pepper or to taste

Equipment

  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Spatula or mixing spoon
  • Sharp knife
  • 9×13 baking dish
  • Parchment paper
  • Oil or melted vegan butter

Instructions

Jalapeño Popper Rolls

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a large 9×13 baking dish.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl mix together the jalapeños, cream cheese, cheese shreds, and tempeh bacon. Set aside.
  3. On a clean work surface or cutting board, roll out the crescent roll dough in one piece to form a large rectangle. Using your fingers, gently merge the seams together as best you can.
  4. Take half of the cream cheese filling and spread it over the crescent roll dough in an even layer, leaving about 1 inch of space on all sides.
  5. Carefully roll the dough starting on the short edge and pinch seam together. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 6 even slices and add the rolls to the baking dish.
  6. Repeat this process with the second crescent roll dough so we have 12 rolls total.
  7. Place a sheet of parchment paper on top of rolls to flatten slightly. Remove parchment paper and place into the oven for 32-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. While the rolls bake, prepare the cilantro lime sauce.

Cilantro Lime Sauce

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until combined. For a thinner sauce add 1-2 teaspoons of water and mix through.
  2. Once Jalapeño Popper Rolls have cooled, drizzle generously with the sauce and enjoy.
