Tempeh is one of those foods that is important to prepare correctly. We’ve had some incredibly delicious tempeh, and other times it has been below average, so how you season and cook it is everything. If you follow this recipe, we promise you will have an enjoyable tempeh experience.
Do yourself a favor now and save this Italian-seasoned tempeh recipe. It’s so dang delicious that we couldn’t even believe it.
This Italian-seasoned tempeh pairs perfectly with pasta, on pizza, in a sandwich, or just on its own.
If you’re digging this recipe and you want to try out more from our blog, check these out:
2 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (or try balsamic vinegar)
2 tablespoons tamari (or sub soy sauce if not gluten-free)
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1/2 tablespoon Italian seasoning
Optional: 1 tablespoon olive oil
Optional: pinch red pepper
8 oz. tempeh, diced or sliced
Instructions
Mix all of the ingredients except for the tempeh in a sealable container or reusable zip lock bag and mix until uniform. Mix in the tempeh, cover, and allow it to marinate for 30 minutes.
Once marinated, pour the tempeh and all of the marinade into a medium non-stick pan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, decrease the heat to low, and cover the pan. Allow the tempeh to simmer and steam for 20 minutes.
Uncover the pan and bring the heat back up to medium-low. Cook the tempeh, flipping often, until all of the liquid has cooked off and it becomes a nice golden brown color.
Cool for 10 minutes before serving and then dig in!

I just made this for dinner with some pasta with pesto and cauliflower. It was easy and delicious and so so flavorful. I’m still figuring out tempeh and I’m excited to have such a good option for it now. Also I did it with balsamic vinegar and it worked great. Thanks for the recipe!
I REALLY want to try this recipe, but it’s cut off in the middle of the 2nd step! Can you you fix this so I can read the whole thing (or send it to me in a PDF)? Thanks
