This is one of those “dump it all over anything to make it taste delicious” kind of sauces. Seriously, we stand by that. That is why we dubbed this the perfect peanut sauce, and we know you will agree too.

This recipe requires simple ingredients, and you probably already have most of them in your fridge and pantry: peanut butter, soy sauce, maple syrup, lime, cilantro, ginger, garlic and sesame oil. You can take it up a notch with some hot sauce, too!

This sauce also works great with almond, sunflower or cashew butter, especially for those who may have a peanut allergy. You can use coconut aminos, liquid aminos or tamari in place of the soy sauce, and you can also use a liquid sweetener of choice or what you have on hand instead of the maple syrup. As always, have fun with this recipe and make it your own!

There are so many different ways to serve this peanut sauce! If you make it thick and creamy, it makes for the perfect dip alongside spring rolls. You can also use it as a spread inside sandwiches (check out ourย Thai Peanut Roasted Veggie Sandwich) to take them up a notch. If you water it down, this peanut sauce becomes a dressing and is perfect for salads and our grain bowls!

Description

Learn how to make the perfect peanut sauce with just 8 simple ingredients and less than 10 minutes of your time! This is one of our go-to recipes in our house when we are in need of a good dip or dressing, and it hits the spot every time.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup creamy unsalted peanut butter*
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2ย tablespoons maple syrup (or liquid sweetener of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (1/2 tablespoon fresh grated ginger)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 cloves garlic, finely minced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/4 cup-1/3 cup water, or as needed to thin to your liking

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients, except for the water, into a medium bowl and whisk together until uniform.
  2. Slowly whisk in the water, a few tablespoons at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. We like our sauce runnier when we use it as a dressing and thicker when we use it as a dip.

Notes

  • You can use almond, sunflower or cashew butter in place of the peanut butter in case of allergies.
  • Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Prep Time: 8 minutes
  • Category: Dip, Sauce
  • Cuisine: Vegan, Gluten-free

  1. Easy and delicious, also very easy to make. Had to make some substitutes: bottled lime juice vs fresh, mint in place of cilantro because I don’t have them on hand. Still turned out wonderful. Thanks!

  2. This is the best peanut sauce Iโ€™ve ever made. I do simmer it for a bit.

  6. try adding Tamarind concentrate (The Thai kind, not Indian) might not use lime also but you might. Can get on Amazon if you’re not near a Thai, Vietnamese or Cambodian grocery.
