Call us basic, but avocado toast is one of our favorite breakfasts 😛
There are probably hundreds of different ways to serve avocado toast, but we are sharing with you our favorite way to serve it. I know this isn’t technically a recipe, but we wanted to share it because it is a dish that we love and enjoy often! This recipe can be put together in less than 10-minutes and requires ingredients you probably already have on hand. PLUS it’s easy to make, filling, and perfect for any meal of the day! Fresh lemon juice is a must-have ingredient for our avocado toast! If you have Meyer lemons available in your area, those are what we prefer. We are always shocked by the prices of this easy dish at the cafes local to us here in Los Angeles– avocado toast shouldn’t have to cost you $14+! I know the price will just depend on where you are located in the world, and we are fortunate that we live in an avocado-abundant state. Did you know that California produces 90% of the avocados in the US? Another variation of our avocado toast that I wanted to throw in to give you more ideas! If your avocado is too ripe to slice or if you don’t feel like taking the time to peel and slice it, you can simply mash it with your toppings/add-ins of choice, pile it on top of a slice of toasted bread and dig in. We also threw on some pico de gallo for color and it was definitely a winning combo! We would love to hear about what you like to include on your toast– let us know in the comments below + if you post any photos on Instagram, make sure you tag us @sweetsimplevegan and @consciouschris so that we don’t miss it, we love seeing your photos!
PrintHow to Make Avocado Toast {easy + vegan}
- Total Time: 8 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Save money and learn how to make avocado toast at home! This recipe can be put together in less than 10-minutes and requires ingredients you probably already have on hand. It’s easy to make, filling, and perfect for any meal of the day!
Ingredients
- 4 slices of your bread of choice (we used Dave’s Killer Bread sandwich slices)
- 1–2 ripe Hass avocados (# depending on their size)
- Juice of 1/2–1 medium lemon
- Pink Himalayan salt
- Black pepper
- Dried dill
- Hemp hearts (optional)
- Nutritional yeast (optional)
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Toast the bread as desired in a toaster or toaster oven.
- Half both of the avocados and discard the pits. Carefully remove the skin from the avocados and discard.* With a sharp knife, carefully cut the avocado halves into slices.
- Divide the avocado slices between the four slices of bread and add toppings of choice as desired. We squeezed half of a lemon on top of all four slices, then added a total (between all four slices) of roughly 1 tablespoon hemp hearts, 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast, 1/2 teaspoon dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Feel free to leave out or add in toppings as desired! Have fun with it 🙂
- If the skin is not easily peeled off, you can scoop the avocado out of the skin, place it into a bowl and mash it. Spread the avocado mash evenly on the toasted bread and then add toppings of choice.
- Nutritional information takes into consideration 2 Hass avocados and the addition of the toppings added (1 tablespoon hemp hearts, 1 tablespoon spoon nutritional yeast,1/2 teaspoon dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper).
- Prep Time: 8 minutes

I love mashing my avocado and leaving a few whole chunks when spreading it on top of my toast! In addition, I love adding caramelized onions, butternut squash, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, or even sunflower seeds on top! So yummy!
I love avocado toast a lot. How do you maintain the vibrant green colour of your avocado? Mine turns brown after a couple of minutes. Please, check out my website at

The addition of lemon juice really helps preserve the avocado! 🙂
I would eat this every day!
Love it, the only difference, I use lime instead of lemon ❤️
