Description
These Chili Lime Tofu Lettuce Wraps are quick, flavor-packed, and require just one skillet! Top with crisp veggies, buttery avocado, and a squeeze of lime for the perfect finishing touch.
Ingredients
For the tofu:
- 400g (14 oz) extra firm tofu, pressed and crumbled
- 2 tablespoons oil (we like to use avocado oil)
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 chili pepper, diced and seeded
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
To serve:
- 1 head of butter lettuce or romaine hearts, separated into cups
- 1 carrot, julienned or shredded
- ½ cucumber, thinly sliced or diced
- ½ avocado, sliced
- Fresh cilantro
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Sauté the garlic and chili pepper. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the oil. Once hot, add the garlic and chili peppers and sauté until fragrant, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Brown the tofu. Add the crumbled or cubed tofu and continue to cook, stirring frequently, for 5 to 6 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Add the chili lime sauce ingredients. Add the soy sauce, lime juice, maple syrup, chili flakes, and cumin. Stir well and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until the tofu is golden and fully coated.
- Season to taste. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, then remove from the heat and drizzle over the toasted sesame oil, as desired.
Assembling the Lettuce Wraps
- Once the chili lime tofu is ready, it’s time for the good part. Carefully peel away whole leaves from the head of lettuce and place your lettuce “cups” on a large plate.
- Spoon the tofu into each, then top with julienned carrot, thinly diced cucumber, and sliced avocado. Finish with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice and dig in!
