Ahhh, it’s that time of year again. The fear of contracting an illness has gone up, and so has the use of immunity pills and flu shots. But why use those when you could get your immunity from whole, fresh, raw foods? Yeah, I’m talking a Raw Vegan Immune Boosting ‘Flu Shots’. No chemicals, no nasties, just pure, simple, natural goodness.
Orange and Lemon: not only do these have a high vitamin C content, but they also contain flavonoids, such as quercetin, rutin, hesperidin, apigenin and tangeretin, that target immune malfunctions and inflammation.
Pineapple: boosts immune system because of the presence of vitamin C, A, and selenium!
Apple: contains the flavonoids quercetin, which is an antioxidant that has immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties.
I added in the pineapple and apple to cut the zing of these shots, but I have in fact been bold enough to do this without them. It definitely was a powerful shot, but it gets the job done 😉
Garlic: contains the active ingredient allicin, which fights infection and bacteria.
Ginger: reduces fevers, soothes sore throats, can remove mucus from the chest through coughing, stimulates blood circulation and opens your sinuses. Improved circulation allows more oxygen into your tissues, helping to remove toxins and viruses.
Cayenne: contains capsaicin, which is a phenol compound has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Sunwarrior Immune Shield: The star of this recipe. I learned of this product from Jason Wrobel on his Youtube cooking show, and I just had to try it. It is a raw vegan fortified fulvic acid and silver ion complex perfect maximizing the immune system. It delivers the immune enhancing power of the fulvic acid and complex silver into the blood, lymph and other body fluids, as well as into the cells of the body where it can assist the immune system to repel and fight foreign invasions and counteract their actions. WIt does not compromise the flavor of these shots either! When I had created the idea for this recipe, I knew this must be a part of it. You can read more info on it here.
As for my juicer, I used the Omega VRT350 Juicer. It’s a masticating juicer, a slow juicer that prevents the destruction of many healthy enzymes, which causes juice to degrade. I love it! - 1 orange, peeled
- 1 lemon, peeled
- 1 cup pineapple
- 1 apple, core removed and diced
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2-3/4″ fresh ginger root
- 1 oz. Sunwarrior Immune Shield
- Dash of cayenne
- Run all of the ingredients, except for the cayenne, through a juicer. I use this one.
- If you do no have a juicer, you can attempt to blend and strain the mix.
- Pour into 3-4 shot glasses, and top with a few dashes of cayenne.
- Drink immediately.
